First of all
The travel plan written on this
page is only the plan, not in action. I have written this article as a part of
my English class. The sights introduced here is based on true information on
the Internet. But I have no intention to make action from this plan. Maybe
someday, I may go to Oman in reality… but I don’t know now.
I designed this trip with my friend together. His name is Koike
Masahiro. We attend the same university in Japan, and takes the same English
class. We have got to know each other in the class. In this page, we will
introduce our plan of a visit to Oman, a country in the Middle East. It takes
two weeks to accomplish this travel. This is our first challenge to design such
a long trip. Good, we have two weeks! How vacation it is! But not in
reality…pity
Basic
information on Oman
The destination of this trip is Oman, an UAE member country. The
left picture shows Oman. The capital Muscat is in the northern part of Oman. More
than 2.5 million people lives in Oman. Most of Omanis are Muslim. The size of
Oman ,312,460 km², is as large as Japan, 377,961 km².
The points of this trip.
At least we want to achieve these goals. Our “minimum success” is
return to Japan safe and sound. Our “full success” of this trip is shown below,
there are four points.
Walk in souqs
Local souqs,
meaning Markets, may be a good place to get a glimpse of the daily lives of
local residents. We want to see souqs in some towns and find something
interesting.
Visit Mosques
Mosques.
A man who not Muslim can’t enter mosques, except Grand Mosque in Muscat.
Mosques in Oman is said to be especially beautiful in UAE countries. I want to
see the magnificent building.
Visit Three Big Forts
Oman has
many historic forts, the number is more than one hundred. We will visit especially
famous forts called “Three
Big Forts”. Some of forts are in danger of collapse
because of elision. Forts are all around Oman, so we stay at hotel in Muscat
and go to see them.
Wild Camels
Wild
camels can be seen all over the country. I am very interested to see wild
camels. If I would able to find them, I’ll take pictures and tell about my
story to my friends with the pictures. In my feeling, Wild camels will be a
good symbol of Middle East trip.
Details of our trip
The 1st day
Flight is from Haneda airport to
Muscat airport via Dubai airport. It takes about 14 hours. We use QATAR airline
because it is the cheapest airline we could find, its fare is only \102,323
($944). When we arrive Muscat airport, we will get our visa. Then, we go to the
hotel and check in. This hotel stands in a good location because Muscat
is the capital city. In Muscat, there is the Grand Mosque, the Palace, souvenirs shops,
and a lot of taxies. This hotel is convenient to go to sightseeing around the
country. We will visit many places, then walk, then return to the hotel.
We will eat lunch of the first day in Oman at the hotel. Then we
will visit the Grand Mosque. The Grand Mosque is the only mosque in Oman where
people who is not Muslim can go into and see the inside of the building.
In Muscat, we will walk around the city looking for something interesting. The main place we want to see is the Oman Palace. Oman is the country of the Absolute monarchy. The current king is *قابوس بن سعيد آل سعيد, and his statue is printed to all bills of Omani rial (the currency of Oman). The Palace is not open for normal people, the outlook of the palace is worth for sightseeing. Aroun the palace, there are museums about Oman so we want to go the exhibition.
(*In Latin, قابوس بن سعيد آل سعيد is written ‘Qābūs bin Sa’īd Āl Sa’īd’. I copied king’s
name from Wikipedia.)
The 2nd day
Wakeup at 8:00, go to Mutrah and
see the local souq. In the Muthrah souq, there are many shops which sell
accessory shops, illumination goods, cloth products. It may be a good place to
think about what to buy for our souvenirs.
After the walk in the Mutrah souq,
We go to “the Dolphin tour”. In the hotel, we will buy thickets of the tour.
The 3rd day
First, we are going to visit the
Bahara fort and the Nizwafort. There are more than one hundred forts in Oman so
it is almost impossible to visit all forts in this two-weeks. I will visit Three Big Forts in Oman. Nizwa is far from Hazam and Rustaq,
and they are relatively close. We go to former Nizwa fort and we go latter two
forts in the 8th day. During visit to Nizwa fort, we will see souqs
there.
The 4th day
We go to the Archaeological Sites
of Al-Ayn. The ancient ruins dot the Jabal al Akhdar of northern Oman. Al-Ayn
is resignated to the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The 5th day
We visit Bait Al Zubair Museum at Muscat
The 6th day
We go to the Hazm fort and the Rustaq fort.
The 7th day
We take a walk in Muscat. We
should be very tired because we walk long distances in the Climate which is
under equator. We visit Sands, forts, many heating places. Even in October, the
temperature goes over 30 ℃. A blog featuring
Oman trip we gathering information on Oman said that fresh juices taste good,
so we want to drink them in the well air conditioned restaurants. Taking rest
is very important thing.
The 8th day
We check out the hotel in Muscat
and heads Salasah. After 1:30 flight, we check in the hotel ”Al Jabal Hotel”.
The price is very reasonable.
The 9th day
We walk the village Taka and walk
around the city.
The 10th day
We go to Rubuaruhari dessert. I wish I can find a wild camel there.
The way to go to the Rubuaruhari dessert is public transportations like taxies
and buses, *but not train, rental cars, tours with transportation. The reasons
are ‘there is no train’, ‘we have no international driving license’ and ‘we
want to walk freely.
*I
should tell you about the transportations on Oman.
First, Taxis has a unique payment rule. A taxi costs constant amount
of money according to distance, no matter how many people get on. So if you
take two people with, the fare per person will be the half. If you take four
people with, the fare per person will be the quarter. And the fare is decides
in persuasion. So that means, if you want to take a taxi, you should ask people
around you who seems want to take a taxi, like “Excuse me but Why don’t we take
a taxi together?” Second, there is any railways. When you are to go a far
place, that you can’t take a taxi, you have to take a taxi, use buses or rent a
rental car. Neither of I and Koike has international driving license so we have
to use public transportations.
The 11th day
The second day in Salasah. We walk
in the city and go souqs there. In the afternoon, we check out the hotel and
return to Muscat.
The 12th day
We will buy souvenirs in Muscat.
After dinner, we will have some time to take a walk in night city. The beautiful
scenery of Muscat in night is recommended to see in a website on travels to
Oman. We are looking forward to be in JAPAN again, finishing our trip safe and
sound.
Thank
