My medical problem is near-sightedness. I got this symptom when I was in the 7th grade. Since then, I am always wearing my glasses.
I have tried some methods which said to be effective to improve your eye-focus, but they failed. For example, I focus at one corner of the room, and moves my eye focus to the next corner, repeat it. This is said to be a good exercise of your eye muscle. Another example was amazing 3D books which name is “magical eye”. When you see the pictures on the book with your eye focus crossing above the book. This crossed focus causes 3D illusion. However, these methods were never effective on me, though they are interesting. (I think it is difficult to have a scientific idea according to two examples upon. I didn’t measure span of these “treatments” and didn’t measure exact sight before and after the trial.)
I got my own PC for the first time when I entered university. I use it for hours every day, staring at console window. Sometimes, I notice that my face and the console is not far than 40 cent meters, too close! I often write programs by my PC with a lot of concentration because bug lives on my source codes. They sometimes very small. For example, “seu_cnt” and “sel_cnt”, unsigned char type variable in C language, is a bug I have experienced. They only differs one character ‘u’ and ‘l’ in hundred of lines, among several text files…. The debugging is a hard work on your eyes. (“sel” stands for “single event latchup” and “seu” stands for “single eventupset” (“cnt” is “count”). These are technical terms explains the unwilling symptom on semiconductor caused by radiation. In space engineering, it is critical to take measures on these single event effects. ).
In my case and in most cases, I think, the cause of near-sightedness is external. We watch TV just in front of the screen, type keys of your PC staring at console in front of you. The problem are partly because of the civilization. The tools developed in the civilization improved our quality of lives and contributed to our happiness, but they also made us less outdoor and we stares at small console. We have to keep in mind that they are indispensable in today’s world, but they sometimes cause unpleasant medical effect on our health like my near-sightness.
